Texas Children’s Cancer Center & Hematology Service recently launched an organization page on the social networking site Facebook. The page will be used to distribute news and events to friends of the Cancer Center and will also provide a social media outlet for users to network with one another.
Facebook has garnered popularity in recent years as a social networking tool. Users can interact with friends, send messages, upload photos, and update their personal profiles to notify other users about updates in their life. Recent developments indicate that Facebook is ranked as the most used social networking tool and has since become a marketing instrument for businesses and non-profit organizations.
“We hope that this site will allow cancer center employees, parents, and former patients to interact and connect with each other in a supportive environment,” said Corbin Dodge, Web Production Specialist. “Patient privacy is our top priority and we’ve taken measures to ensure that patient information remains confidential.”
Administrators of the account are able to make wall posts that send information to fans of the page. News articles and events can be instantly sent to TXCH supporters on a daily basis, which ensures that receive up-to-date information on a consistent basis.
“Our fans have been showing a lot of gratitude for the page and they have been rising exponentially over time,” said Dodge. “This provides an outlet for parents, friends, and family to thank the Cancer Center for saving the lives of their acquaintances.”
