June 9, 2008 – Texas Children’s Hospital
Texas Children’s Hospital Staff photographer Allen Kramer was recognized by the Children’s Miracle Network with an award for outstanding photography.
“When I took this photo of Nurse Keri Cox and patient Abigail, they were actually involved in a routine procedure,” said Kramer. “You never really know which shots will be a hit, but you try to make every photo special. Some just seem to “click” more than others. I think the judges liked the eye contact, the sincere interaction and of course, the smiles. But I think some photos capture something more that’s almost subconscious—and in this case the child and the nurse have a comfortable, warm relationship. That’s something that can’t be staged, and I think the viewer senses that. I like the image because it is real, and it demonstrates the ability of photography to capture life’s moments to be viewed and appreciated again and again.”
