September 13, 2010
On September 13, 2010, Hope on Wheels visited the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. 15 regional Hyundai representatives, including Robert Williams, presented a $100,000 Hope Grant to Texas Children’s Cancer Center. The Hope Grant will be used to help expand the cancer center staff, by establishing funding for a patient care coordinator. In addition, the Hop Grant will provide full support for a new clinical research nurse at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers.
“You may or may not be aware of the fact that this month is pediatric cancer awareness month. In what is truly unique relationship, Hyundai has developed a unique partnership with the pediatric cancer research community, with the Hyundai Hope on Wheels program,” said Dr. David Poplack, Director of Texas Children’s Cancer Center.
“Hyundai Hope of Wheels and the local dealer body are very excited to be here today. For the past 12 years Hyundai has committed to helping kids fight cancer. Hope on Wheels is a united effort of the Hyundai dealers of the south central region in conjunction with more than 800 dealers nation-wide, to raise awareness about childhood cancer and to celebrate the children that are battling the disease” said Robert Williams, Regional Sales Manager for Hyundai.
“They are giving 6.8 million dollars out nationally for research at many different centers in the [United States],” said Poplack. “The research that’s being support includes not only individual pediatric cancer researchers–those people who are working in a laboratory or who my be involved in clinical research–but it also includes support for individuals who are critical to the clinical research process. I know for example that we are fortunate enough this morning to be receiving funds that will support our Solid Tumor Program at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. So on behalf of Texas Children’s Cancer Center, but more importantly on behalf of each of our patients and their families, I want to thank the Hyundai Corporation for this wonderful gift. It will help inordinate numbers of children worldwide.”
“Today we are proud to present to Texas Children’s Hospital, the Hope Grant in the amount of $100,000, for a gift on behalf of the Hyundai Hope on Wheels Program,” said Williams.
