September 23, 2009 – Texas Children’s Hospital
The 2009 Celebration of Champions fashion show and luncheon was held on September 23, 2009 at the Hilton Americas-Houston. Proceeds from this annual event benefit Texas Children’s Cancer Center’s Long Term Survivor Program.
This year, Dr. ZoAnn Dreyer, medical director of the hospital’s long-term survivor program, was honored for her dedication to combating pediatric cancer and for her expertise in this specialty area.
The Honorary Champion was Rudy Tomjanovich, former head coach of the Houston Rockets, who coined the phrase “never underestimate the heart of a champion” after his team won their second consecutive NBA championship.
In addition to a luncheon, guests also enjoyed a fashion show featuring clothing modeled by some true champions—Texas Children’s Cancer Center’s long term survivors, and their doctors, nurses and social workers.
Long-time philanthropists, Sidney Faust, Judi Holmes and Scott Basinger, chaired the event.
Proceeds from the event benefit pediatric cancer research conducted at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, the largest pediatric hematology and oncology program in the U.S.
