Home » 5 Rio Grande Valley school districts unite to help local children with cancer
The 2nd Annual Kids Helping Kids Campaign to benefit The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic was held in all elementary schools in the Edinburg, La Feria, McAllen, Sharyland and Weslaco Independent School Districts.
The goal of the campaign was to teach young children the importance of helping other children who are less fortunate than them. Every classroom in the elementary schools was given a collection box to fill with different coins throughout the week. An incredible $90,000 was collected during the weeklong campaign!
We thank the school districts who participated for recognizing the need in our local community and appreciate their help in the local fight against childhood cancer. All funds raised were used to provide direct patient care for the children being seen at the clinic, many of who attend the schools where the fundraisers were held.
Vannie Cook Clinic remains the only fully comprehensive pediatric oncology and hematology clinic in the Rio Grande Valley and in 15 years of operation has never denied a child life saving care due to their inability to pay for treatment. For more information on the clinic please contact Victoria Guerra, Director of Development at 956-661-9840.
