Biography

Dr. Russell Ware is the director of the Texas Children’s Hematology Center and director of Texas Children’s Center for Global Health. Dr. Russell Ware is also professor, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology-Oncology, Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Russell Ware is an internationally-recognized expert in the field of pediatric hematology with a special interest in sickle cell disease. He is a distinguished researcher and author of more than 200 scientific papers and 35 textbook chapters. Dr. Russell Ware receives over $10 million annually in research funding from the National Institutes of Health.

Research

Our research team focus on translational research to improve the lives of children with sickle cell anemia. We are interested in determining pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacogenetic variability of hydroxyurea treatment and how they affect patient’s clinical outcome. This work includes gene expression profiles, genotyping polymorphisms, and association studies from ongoing studies.
